E-Week 2016 - In Association With NEN(20 Feb ,2016)

Start of E-Week : The start of E-Week was held at Calcutta Business School on February 19, 2016. The event was addressed by Mr. Sashi Chimala, Executive Vice President, NEN. Mr. Subhabrata Bhattacharyya, Regional Head (E) and his team were also present on the occasion.
Representatives from HBS, IEM, Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology, Techno India, Globsyn Business School, Calcutta Business School. Six Entrepreneurs also participated in the Event. A number of important aspects of the methodology for Evaluation for Awards, as well as the nature of Entrepreneurial Projects to be showcased during the
E-Week were discussed in this meeting. The future plans of NEN, including the different learning Programmes and Mobile Apps to be launched, were also explained by NEN.

Inaugural Programme : The Inaugural Programme was held in the Seminar Hall of ‘A’ Building from 10.00 AM on February 20, 2016. The E-Week was inaugurated by Shri H. K. Chaudhary ji, Chairman, KBT and Chairman, Vikram Group of Industries. Distinguished Speakers and Entrepreneurs Shri Vikram Swarup ji, Vice-Chairman, KBT and Chairman, Paharpur Cooling Towers, Shri Sajjan Bhajanka ji, Secretary, KBT and Chairman, Century Ply and Star Cement stressed on the qualities required by the Entrepreneurs to succeed and the need to start one’s own business rather than working for other Entrepreneurs. The Inaugural Session was followed by a talk on “Entrepreneurial Skills” by Shri Abhishek Rungta and “Choice between Employment and Entrepreneurship” by Mr. Nitesh Sood, an ex-student of 2008 batch of HBS.

Observance of E-Week :
(i) Stalls : A total of 45 stalls were put up by the students of the Heritage Group of Institutions. The entrepreneurial abilities showcased ranged from conception and presentation of non-standard eatables to biological soaps, remote controlled mechanism for controlling lights and fans, handicraft and papercraft, brain games conceptualized by students etc.

(ii) Business Plan Contest : A Contest on Business Plan was held in the Seminar Hall of ‘A’ Building. The Judges were Dr. Sharmishta Banerjee, Professor, Department of Management, University of Calcutta and Shri P. K. Nag, Deputy General Manager (SME) State Bank of India. A total of 9 teams participated from HBS, HIT, Techno and IEM. The first prize was won by the team from IEM, 2nd prize by the team from Techno and 3rd prize was awarded to one of the 4 teams’ from HBS. The Judges commented that the quality of the Presentation were excellent.

(iii) Debate : A Debate was held on the topic “This house will ban all research and development of all Technology that uses fossil fuels”

(iv) Workshops and Seminars : A number of Workshops and Seminars were held during the week on various topics. The venues were several rooms in the HIT Building and ‘A’ building.

(v) Visits of Dignarities : A number of distinguished Entrepreneurs visited the Heritage Campus during the E-Week. Some of them are mentioned below :

(vi) Inspection of NEN Team : The NEN Team visited the Venue on February 24, 2016. They advised the Organizers to upload photographs and videos of various events and different aspects of the E-Week for the purposes of determining the Prize Winners in different Categories.

CSR Activities :
(i) At Surya Kiran : A group of student Entrepreneurs spent 2 hours at Surya Kiran on February 24, 2016 to organize a Sit & Draw Competition for the students. A group of 80 students selected by the teachers of Surya Kiran participated in the Competition and 3 Prizes were awarded by Student Entrepreneurs. These Prizes were financed from the profits earned by the student entrepreneurs during the

(ii) Distribution of clothes to the needy : A group of student Entrepreneurs have collected a large quantity of used clothes from the Heritage fraternity of Faculty and students. They will be contacting the local villages through their representatives and handing over the clothes to the needy. The clothes are for children and adults of all ages.

Tangible gains from the E-Week :
(i) Branding of the Heritage Group of Institutions : The publicity both through Print Media and through Word of Mouth publicity has added to the visibility and branding of the Heritage Group of Institutions.

(ii) An order for Dark Chocolates has been placed by a large NGO for Cancer patients. This will be followed by subsequent orders for other Organisations.

(iii) The State Bank of India will, for the first time, take students of HBS for the Summer Internship Project for 2 months during June 15 – August 14, 2016.

(iv) The Department of Management, University of Calcutta will explore the possibilities of tying up with Heritage Business School for several Projects which have Foreign funding.

(v) Ms. Samridhi Rani, a student of MBA-13 will be called by an NGO to talk on the concept and art of making Dark Chocolates and also to teach a group of Entrepreneurs on manufacturing and marketing of the product.

(vi) A team from HIT presented a Business Plan “Bunk Street” during the Business Plan Competition. However, they did not win any prize because the financial aspect of the Business Plan was not there. This group was taught the financial aspect by Faculty of HBS and the modified Business Plan, complete with Financials, won the 1st Prize in the Innovation Contest conducted by HIT on February 24, 2016.
